Social Firms - A New Dimension of Enterprise
Dear Memers and Friends,
We are pleased to announce this year's annual conference of Social Firms Europe (CEFEC), which will be held in Prague, Czech Republic from 10th – 12th September 2009 and organized by CEFEC, FOKUS - Association for Mental Health Care and FOKUS PRAHA.
This traditional international event brings together those, who are interested or concerned in mental health care, employment of people with various disabilities and especially in alternative employment projects that intend to compete in regular enterprising (e.g. social firms, social co-operatives).
The aims of the conference
This year’s conference is called “Social Firms - A New Dimension of Enterprise ".
Although the sustainability of development as an equilibrium of economic, environmental and social aspects of development has been proclaimed as a priority by European Union representatives for a long time, the need for it becomes crucial within the context of the current economic crisis. We consider the approaches of social economics and social enterprising to be one of the few real resolutions. The conference aims to disseminate these ideas, also by introducing examples of the good practices of various countries, and call upon the national and EU policy representatives to support them.
As the conference program has been drawn to provide many practical workshops and opportunities of personal meetings and sharing experiences, it offers to those who are interested in establishing or are already running a social firm, new knowledge and concrete inspiration to be able to sustain and develop their social firm in contemporary ambient conditions.

We invite you to sample its magical atmosphere and unique beauty. We are also honored to be the first post-communist country hosting the CEFEC Annual Conference.
Social Firms Europe (CEFEC) is a European Network of Social Firms, Social Cooperatives, NGO’s and organizations that all share the objective of creating paid work for disabled and disadvantaged people. CEFEC associates members come from 18 European countries.
FOKUS – Association for Mental Health Care is an umbrella organization of 10 organizations operating in the Czech Republic. FOKUS associations were the first organizations in the field of mental health care in Czechoslovakia. Together they form a strong, closely collaborating group striving for quality of mental health services and for their further enlargement. The FOKUS Association is a member of CEFEC since 2006.
FOKUS PRAHA is a civil association with almost 20 year’s history of providing professional mental health care within the area of Prague and Central Bohemia. Its mission is to support people with an experience of mental illness in their efforts to manage their lives and find opportunities for self-fulfillment in the community.
